Preterite Tense Verbs
There are two forms of the past in Spanish. The imperfect past and the preterite past. These lessons focus on the preterite which indicates that an event took place at some point in the past and it is a completed finished action.
The Past Tense: Preterite
Regular -ar: bailar ['dance'] bailé, bailaste, bailó, bailamos, bailásteis, bailaron
Regular -er/ir: comer [eat] comí, comiste, comió, comimos, comisteis, comieron
Stem change - e i: pedir ['ask for] pedí, pediste, pidió, pedimos, pedisteis, pidieron
Stem change - o u: dormir ['sleep'] dormí, dormiste, durmió, dormimos, dormisteis, durmieron
Root change - u: poder ['be able] pude, pudiste, pudo, pudimos, pudisteis, pudieron
Root change - j: decir ['say/tell'] dije, dijiste, dijo, dijimos, dijisteis, dijeron
Irregular: ser/ir ['be/go'] fui, fuiste, fue, fuimos, fuisteis, fueron
Irregular: dar ['give'] di, diste, dio, dimos, disteis, dieron
