Hola, soy Isabel Paúl y soy de la ciudad de Valladolid, es una ciudad situada en el corazón de Castilla León, en España. Es una ciudad que tiene una media de cuatrocientos mil habitantes, no llega. Una ciudad situada en el noreste de España, muy castellana; teóricamente, es la ciudad en la que nació el castellano, la lengua. Los orígenes están reflejados en muchos documentos y casi todos ellos acercan a la provincia de Valladolid a esta zona castellana. Valladolid es una ciudad muy antigua; actualmente, yo creo que conserva parte de su antigüedad con todo lo moderno que puede tener ofrecer una ciudad grande y no muy lejana de Madrid, está solamente a doscientos kilómetros de aquí. Tampoco está lejos la costa, la costa norte española, el Cantábrico, que está bastante cercano a la ciudad de Valladolid, lo cual la sitúa dentro del panorama nacional en una ubicaci7oacute;n bastante buena para desplazarse y conocer el resto de España.

Hi, I am Isabel Paúl and I am from the city of Valladolid. It is a city situated in the heart of Castilla-León, in Spain. It is a city that has an average of four-hundred thousand inhabitants, or a bit less. OK. En Costa Rica por lo general todas las cosas tienen los precios marcados. Es muy difícil encontrar algo que no tenga el precio. Pero si llegara a suceder o uno está confundido porque si el precio que está marcado en el estante es diferente al precio marcado en el producto, le tienen que dar a uno el precio más bajo. Entonces uno siempre va y pregunta al dependiente. Entonces uno se acerca y le pregunta. Le dice –bueno, disculpe buenos días—o buenas tardes, o la hora que sea. –¿Me podría decir cuál es el precio exacto de este producto?—. Entonces por lo general los precios ya incluyen el impuesto de venta, sino hay que preguntar –¿Este es el precio neto o es el precio total?—. En las tiendas grandes no se puede regatear porque todas tienen su código de barra y se espera que uno pague exactamente lo que se pide. Es más o menos como funciona acá en los Estados Unidos. En otras tiendas más pequeñas uno puede regatear. Y siempre que uno pague en efectivo uno puede decir –Mire yo le voy a pagar en efectivo, ¿me da un descuento por favor?, o ¿No podemos arreglar eso, no me puede dar un quiebre?—. Entonces uno, ahí el vendedor ahí puede decidir si le puede dar un descuento o no. Por lo general si uno está pagando en efectivo o está comprando mucho siempre es bueno pedir un descuento. Y si no pues igual, uno trata siempre de sonreír y hacerle ahí como… no sé, de regatear un poco, en las tiendas pequeñas. En las tiendas que son muy grandes, ni perder el tiempo.

OK. In Costa Rica generally everything has a price tag. It’s hard to find something without a price. But if it happened or if you are confused because the price marked on the stand is different from the price on the product, they have to give you the lower price. So you always go and ask the person in charge. Then you go up and ask him or her. You say “well, excuse me good morning – or good afternoon,” or whatever time it is. “Is this the correct price or is it the total price?” In the bigger stores you can’t haggle because everything has a barcode and it is expected that you pay the asking price. It is more or less like it works here en the U.S. In other smaller stores you can haggle. And whenever you are going to pay with cash you can say “Look, I am going to pay with cash, will you give me a discount please?” or “Can’t we fix this, can’t you give me a break?” So you, there the vendor can decide if he can give you a discount or not. Generally if you are paying with cash or you are buying a lot it’s always good to ask for a discount. And if not well it’s the same, you try to always smile and pretend like… I don’t know, to haggle a little, in the small stores. In the stores that are bigger, don’t even waste your time.
