I traveled from Spanish by the River in Boquete, Panama to their school in Turrialba. Again very good teachers and helpful staff . Staying with the lovely host family helped me a lot to practice my conversation. The rafting on the Pacuare was an experience I,ll never forget.
Evaluation from emilyv:
Excellent teachers, good program and wonderful atmosphere. Activities were fun.
Evaluation from SallyMitchell:
The school has such a beautiful location with view of the volcany and everything green around it .. The staff is superfriendly, the program very well organized (the owner herself made all the materials !) with wonderfull tours .... like Spanish by the riverside at their Campsite at the bank of the Pacuare river and horseback trips in the countryside.. The host families are great.. mine helped me a lot to improve my Spanish quickly.. I also think the combination with their other two schools was a great extra for me!

Great school in a very relaxing tropical setting, the teachers are all locals from the town of Turrialba and are really good. The balcony has a great view and is the perfect place to relax or study spanish!
Evaluation from hoosiers123:
Spanish by the River has quality classes for good prices. The environment of the school and the excursions that they offer make for an overall great experience.

We hade the good luck to find our way to this school after six weeks of travel in Costa Rica. We ended up staying two weeks because 1) the spanish instruction was excellent, 2) the school is a very nice place to stay, and 3) the town is an authentic Costa Rican place, a nice change from all the touristy places we visited. The school accomodated our need for different levels of instruction, basically we ended up having either private lessons or very small classes. The instructors were excellent and really made us speak and read spanish continually. Initially we were hesitant about the location of the school because it's a couple miles out of town. In fact this turned out to be the best part because the location is up where it's cool and quiet - both of which are rare in Costa Rica! We really enjoyed hanging out in hammocks studying or reading, and the buses to town are convenient and inexpensive. We used the kitchen to cook, thereby avoiding lots of eating out. When we had too many groceries for the bus we just hopped an inexpensive taxi. Finally the town of Turrialba is really a great place to visit and learn Spanish. There are all the usual attractions: volcanos, waterfalls, and rivers, most notably the Pacuare River which is truly exceptional. Ins and Fernando run this school and others in Panama, making a multi-country visit very easy. We would recommend this school with no second thoughts! the school can help you visit the Pacuare, a must-see for the Turrialba area. Thanks

Not sure the students come first here. Last night the party went on until after 2am! Why didn't management close it down? Because they were the hosts. There were 5-6 students staying at the hostel...we had no where to go, the band played in the living room of the hostel. We were really tired, and pissed. ..it was iike being in party-jail! I liked the instructors...the school facilities are excellent, class i mostly outside on the porch with gorgeous views. The hostel is very affordable, but these facilities are not luxurious, the rooms smell musty, the salon is very dark, the shared shower just sucks! The school tailored my lessons to my desires, but all of that good will was erased by 6 hours of wild partying by the school owners. &$&#&@^@

I have been studying Spanish here for three weeks and it was great. The teachers and other staff are super friendly and helpful. Lessons were held in small huts or outside on the balcony, from where you have an amazing view of the volcano and green surroundings. I also visited their location in Boquete - Panama which is also very beautiful. I have been studying Spanish for 4 weeks and I learned a lot. It has been a great experience and I would everybody who is considering studying Spanish or volunteering in Costa Rica or Panama to go as well!!!
Evaluation from sandranuman:
I really loved everything of this school. The view from the big balcony where the classes are, is truely amazing. The teachers were really nice and did everything to make the best learning plan for us. The hosts and the children are lovely. I will definately go here next year for some further learning. All the best!! Regards, Sandra

I had the best host family! Their kindness made me feel so welcome. The food they prepared was amazing and so was the hospitality.
