A totally a great place to go to if one is serious about learning the language.

Evaluation from trevor:
Learning spanish at 1on1 has been for our family the greatest learning experience ever. 5 stars to 1on1 tutoring.
Evaluation from croesus1111:
You do get a lot for your money here. I had several different teachers, all of whom were very good to excellent. I would not recommend taking classes after dark, because all of the rooms are poorly lit. Some of the rooms also get a lot of traffic and construction noise. Try to get one of the interior rooms in the daytime. I stayed with three different families. The accomodations were all acceptable or better. However, one of the families had a tortilla factory next door, and my room filled with smoke beginning at 5 AM. Another family did not like it if I went out at night! Ask to stay at the home of Juan Bosco and Maria Elena Colomer. Their home is not luxurious, but they are two of the nicest people I have encountered in my travels. The school owner tries to be helpful. However, the school is not set up to provide students with any kind of social interaction.

Remember you get what you pay for! Classrooms are noisy, class materials are full of mistakes. However if you are beginning you still can learn. Advanced students I talked with were very disappointed.
Evaluation from SallyCarter:
On February 19 2012, I finished a three week course at One on One and I can’t describe how incredibly helpful Roger, the school director, was. The teachers are young university kids, but after trying two other schools in the area, and after taking a few intensive courses in Guatemala, Mexico, and in Argentina, I can tell you these kids are the best. Gerson was great as my grammar teacher, and his knowledge of subjunctive was really unexpected because of his age. Gabriel, my exercise teacher, was also very knowledgeable of the language, and Olga’s conversation was simply delightful. She kept on correcting at all times the few mistakes I still make when talking. About my vocabulary teacher, Salvador, I can say that he was really fascinating. What for others might be mistakes in the material (probably the competition), for the instructors at One on one are measurement tools. These mistakes are used to find out if the student has assimilated the use of the grammatical point at hand. When choosing a school in Granada, I would recommend you to try a couple for one or two hours and compare them all. I am sure you will choose One on One.
Evaluation from rg1000:
Very good teachers, very good program. Inexpensive. Flexible hours. The classrooms are poorly lit, and the ones near the road are noisy. I stayed with three different families. First one had a tortilla factory next door and got too smoky to sleep at 5 AM. Second one was with a woman who didn't want me to come home late at night(!). Third family was great. School does not contribute to your social life. But Grenada is a fun town.
Evaluation from JeffHausmann:
I can definetly recommend this school. It has professional teachers and tops with a very familiar atmosphere. And all this for a very good price. The teachers and families were great
Evaluation from Gpech:
The school far exceeded my expectations. The street is been worked on by the government to give it a new colonial image, but the noise is minimum –didn’t bother us at all- No machines are used for the purpose. I have recommended it to many friends, and I intend to return for further instruction.
Evaluation from Cobb23:
My boyfriend and I spent 2 weeks studying with one to one, you are provided with very handy bilingual textbooks, and the courses are very structured. The admin staff can help with accommodation too. The teachers were excellent, and we seem to have had a much better experience than many people we’ve met who’ve studied with other schools
Evaluation from gailshehann:
I just spent 6 of the most amazing weeks in Granada at One on One! I could not have asked for a better place to resume my study of Spanish! I loved every minute with my host family, the teachers and the friends I met along the way. Roger jr., the director’s son, was very responsive to any needs, and I felt that my program was tailored to my style of learning at the speed I needed to learn. I highly recommend attending One on One, especially for professionals and "mature" adults!
Evaluation from lostinthewind:
It is a small school in the center of the town. The teachers are mostly young, very motivated and very qualified. We also stayed in a host-family - which is strongly recommended by the school and what I highly recommend to you as well! Like this you are able to practice your Spanish at any time as well you get to know a lot about the culture of Nicaragua. What I especially liked about this school was that it was small and that they give every student personal attention (in regards of the classes as well as personal concerns like the need of a doctor). As well the lessons are tailored to your level. We were advanced students and so we not only worked on grammar stuff but also visited a few places together with our teachers during class. This gave us the possibility to talk about anything like politics, history, culture, etc.
Evaluation from maher334:
I have attended Spanish classes in several countries and recommend this school because the instruction is excellent and personalized; the teachers are professional, friendly supportive; and the activities are informative. This is a school and city, where you study, feel safe and make new friends.
Evaluation from FlyingEagle:
This is was a great experience for a beginning Spanish student like me. I love the small classes and the fun teachers. Everyone was so full of life and had a passion for teaching; you can't help leaving the program wanting to come back.
Evaluation from donnadnnprkr:
The One on One Tutoring Spanish School provided me with one of the best experiences of my life. I enrolled in a month long immersive Spanish language program. The school arranged for me to stay with a family for the duration of the program. The family was one of the highlights of trip. They were fun, engaging; I felt as though I was part of the home and made friends that I keep in contact with to this day. The city of Granada is worth seeing even if you’re just passing through Nicaragua. Its safe, vibrant and most of all is conducive to exploration without having to deal with a tourist atmosphere. The schools curriculum was solid. In combination with living with a family and going out in the city I believe helped my learning process.
Evaluation from charleypotatoes:
I had a really great host family and was touched by their graciousness. I thought the school was mostly right-on in terms of enthusiastic, competent teachers and was impressed with the director's honesty. If you like being catered to by young, personable teachers, you'll really enjoy this school! It was kind of like the teacher's were all having a contest to see who among them could demonstrate the most engaging personality--although at times, this all got to be a bit thick. My only complaint is there wasn't much going on fun-wise. Also, don't be caught off guard like I was and prepare yourself for how touristy Granada is. Cheers!
Evaluation from backyardbee:
I have to go back to Missouri before New Year, and I'm very sad to be leaving this school. I'll miss my new friends and all the teachers. Classes were one-to-one with, like in any of the other schools in Granada, young, but dedicated, first-class, well trained, and cheerful teachers. It is amazing how much Spanish they were able to teach us in only four weeks. I do not learn languages easily; however I can now without difficulty communicate. I really enjoyed the full immersion program and had a breathtaking experience. Everything I have learned here will benefit me personally and professionally for the rest of my life. Everyone at the school is helpful and professional. The format and instruction are excellent. I gained a lot of confidence in speaking. One on One Tutoring in Granada has been the best experience I have had learning a language. I would recommend it to anyone planning an intensive Spanish course in Nicaragua. I feel that this is, out of the three schools we attended in Granada, the best one.

As homemade mortar rounds exploded over Managua and angry demonstrators poured into the streets for a second consecutive day in an increasingly bitter struggle over who controls Managua and scores of other cities across the country, my husband and I found ourselves in a situation where leaving Granada could mean danger for both of us. So, we had no other option than staying longer in town and try out another one of the local schools of the area. The ratings posted on this site, if I may add, accurately do express what we personally experienced at One on One Tutoring. Small class sizes, and very competent, intelligent, dedicated, hardworking and attentive teachers. We had exceptional host families. Everything was just perfect! They made us feel part of the family from the moment we arrived. Overall this must be the best value for money of any Spanish school in the Americas. This school is located in the heart of the city. No registration fee. Two free activities per week. We had dancing class and a trip to lagoon de Apoyo. Both activities were pleasurable and entertaining! If you decide to try out this school, ask Roger, the school director, to be one of your teachers, I am sure you will enjoy his experience and professionalism.
Evaluation from backyard_bee:
I was very impressed with the teaching staff at this school, who really made an effort to keep the classes novel and challenging. I didn't realize just how great this school was until I went to another school and had to go back although Nicaragua Mia Spanish school was highly recommended by locals and travelers that I met in Granada. Plus, it seemed to offer much more than 1on1 Tutoring. BIG MISTAKE! 1on1 Tutoring is SIMPLY GREAT!!!
Evaluation from rclark:
You are taught by four different teachers with an hour for each teacher per day, which makes the time go fast and ensures that you focus on various aspects of the language. Materials are developed by the School, which have good English explanations but examples can be too advanced for a beginner. I had a couple of excellent teachers but the other two were not so experienced and the conversation teacher was terrible. I found this an excellent school to gain a solid understanding of grammar and the Director Roger is a very good teacher, but the quality of a couple of the other teachers lessened the experience a little.
Evaluation from Jonathanregor:
I spent two months in One on One Tutoring which is located in the Calzada street before reaching the Guadalupe church , I have nothing but praise for this school. This is a small school and all classes are one-on-one.! They are so patient, funny, loving and kind. They are really wonderful fantastic. I did not speak any Spanish before I arrived and with love and patience taught me a lot. And the family home are very good family and very friendly. . This trip was my first visit to Nicaragua. Two friends of mine who were studying in other Spanish schools told me just for them was simply a waste of time and money. Because teachers did not speak any English and was confused that one can not help and the teachers always came late and never apologized or came as a bit drunk....I have always visited this site to read about other people’s travel experiences and about the advices you all kindly make available to us. This is the first time I dare to write about my travel experiences, but I believe that sharing them with you will might help others to make the right decision.
Evaluation from mike23:
Highly recommended !I studied at a different school my first week and changed for my second .It was a good move .The teachers here are exellent they teach with structure, system and detail at the same time they are friendly, fun and flexible, 4 hours is ideal and living with a family essential, changing teachers another plus.

On April 2013, my wife and I went to Granada and spent three weeks there. The first week we evaluated five of the local schools in Granada taking a couple hours classes per day at each school. We found 1on1 tutoring to be the best language school in Granada. There is a mix of young and mature tutors teaching the language. Four of the teachers work head to head with each student. The home.stay family was great and treated us really well. We stayed at 1on1 tutoring and at their home-stay family for two weeks, and wish to go back soon!
Evaluation from gonewiththewind:
I agree with Junior. Spanish class at One on One are refreshing. The tutors are great and Roger Sr. and Roger Jr. where just great! My girlfriend and I took one of their promotion packages. We really loved Granada and lessons at Roger's place.
Evaluation from BradWiebe:
My wife and I had 4-hr lessons 5-days a week for a month, and after even the first day our desire to speak to locals improved immensely, and our opportunities to speak to Spanish only speakers grew exponentially. The staff are friendly and technically knowledgeable, and our lessons soared by. Without hesitation we have and will continue to recommend future students. Please say 'Hi' from Brad and Joanne!
Evaluation from George25:
I had a great Experience with One On One Tutoring spanish school and learned a lot in a short time. The teachers are frienly and helpfull . All the Sessions are Individual Tutoring and the Material is Planned and very Organized. I would Happily return to this school and Recommend it to Anyone in the world wishing to learn the Language quickly..
Evaluation from Jonathan29:
We used Roger Ramirez at http://www.spanish1on1.net/ Spent four hours a day Mon - Friday for a week. They arranged an excellent homestay (where we paid the homestay directly). It was very intensive and very good ..One on One Tutoring is the only Spanish school in Granada Nicaragua that offers each potential student four different instructors per day of classes (the same four instructors for as long as the student stays at the school). Having four instructors that rotate every hours makes the course much more intensive and less, much less boring and stressing for the student. . We went into it thinking that we were going to have a relaxing time, but it was an intense 1 on 1 training in vocabulary, dictation, grammer, etc.. with home work every night. A couple of weeks later on a long bus ride from San Carlos to Juigalpa I spent hours talking to a Nica school teacher (who taught English) in Spanish. He was amazed that our Spanish was so good after only 20 hours of lessons. One of my memories was the young Roger saying (well almost yelling) otra ves, otra ves over and over at me until I got it right this is really helpful.. i would recommend recommend gladly to anyone who wants to learn Spanish fast.
Evaluation from Susywood33:
This is a excellent spanish school i took one week of spanish for four hours a day for five day, one to one, one teacher and me nobody else except me, this is perfect if you want to improve your, this is what i was looking for, great teachers, now i have a strong foundation for Spanish. At the university, I did not learn to pronounce words clearly and could never effectively express myself.

This school is better because it is smaller, more comfortable, and more engaged, which makes it easier to learn and get to know people.
