I just finish a 6 week Spanish program at Wayra School and it was an incredible experience. The quality of the instruction was top of the line. The staff was also very friendly and accommodating. They were there every time I needed them and never received a NO from then. They were so nice that was easy to take advantage of them and in fact some of my friends were really taking advantage of their good nature, with request that were beyond their duty. It was easy to feel at home and just relax. During my studies at Wayra, I meet lots of students from different countries; some of them had study at this school before and came back because they had such a good experience. I also hope to return next year. One thing that I though was extraordinary was the grounds of the school. I can see that they are nature lovers. More than once, we received the visit of the howler monkeys. As my teacher explained, they are frequent visitors to their garden and I can see why. If I was a monkey, I too would like to spend lots of time there. As to the beach and waves, it is already well known the fame of this small town. I highly recommend the school.
Evaluation from mmills:
I visited Costa Rica for 3 months to learn Spanish and to surf. I study Spanish at 3 different Spanish schools in 3 different locations, Flamingo, Manuel Antonio and Tamarindo. My experience at Wayra School was the most enriching. The instructors are well prepared and very professional; they know how to teach a second language. The program and the techniques that this school uses to teach Spanish are extremely efficient. I learned the most and the fastest at this school. I enjoy surfing with my tico brother at Playa Tamarindo, Negra, Grande and Avellanas. A free advice: Wayra is the only one school in Tamarindo and did not change its name, if someone tries to tell you something else be ware. It happened to me but did not work. I had very good references about this school from people I met while traveling.

Stayed for 2 weeks. Teachers rotate every week - generally teachers are pretty good and well organized and try hard to make the lessons interesting. Note that classes are either morning or afternoon sessions and they move you each week. Afternoon sessions are beastly hot. Students are mostly young students in their early 20s with 80% of them from Switzerland - very fun and friendly. Home stay accomodations are located about 5 km away and a school bus picks you up in the morning and generlaly, people have to make their way back to their home stay - it can be very hot in the home stays as they are located away from the water, up and over the hill and if you have an afternoon class, you'll find yourself coming in to school in the morning with everyone else just to get away from the heat. Patricia Rosso in the office is excellent but I have to question the management as it seems like everything outside of the curriculum is offered with a profit motive to make a "commission" from the tour, transportation, etc. Tamarindo and Costa Rica in general is very expensive compared to the rest of Central / Latin America but Tamarindo offers a lot of evening entertainment for those who want to party and go clubbing and tons of surf schools. Love the teachers and the curriculum, get your own accomodation if you want to be more comfortable and save $$ versus having the school arrange it, be somewhat questioning about "tours" that the school can arrange as you can often find better deals elsewhere.

Incredible experience and the best Spanish School. My teachers were all nice, the student housing conveniently located and comfortable. I arrived in Tamarindo with no previous knowledge of Spanish and I was afraid to make a full of myself but they were so supportive. My first teacher, somehow just got me to speak from the first day and after that I just learn so much every day . I left this little paradise speaking a new language. Wayra is an amazing school, don't be afraid and just go to learn with them. They are excellent.
