Evaluation from tberger:
I have studied at this school for 4 month and I liked it a lot. I have plans to go there next year again and I would recommend to everybody to do the same.
Evaluation from heather:
I studied at Guatemalensis for 10 weeks, 5 weeks full-time followed by 5 weeks part time. While I was studing full time I was able to take advantage of all the activities offered by the school, cooking classes, hiking, dance classes, and cultural trips, among other activities. After I began working a local clinic for my masters practicum. The school was flexible, allowing me to take classes for only a couple hours a day, as my schedule allowed. They continued to allow me to participate in activities with the school. I enjoyed my time at the school, and I learned alot. I arrived without being able to speak Spanish. Now when I work with Spanish speakers here in the states, they all ask me where I learn to speak Spanish so well. I highly recommend Guatemalensis.
Evaluation from Quetzalcoalt:
J'ai adoré mon séjour à Guatemalensis! Des gens chaleureux, des professeurs passionnés et des activités renversantes. L'école mérite une note parfaite de 10/10!

Great school and great people!!!
Evaluation from kfolliard:
I was very happy with my experience at Guatemalensis. The program directors are very helpful and willing to help you with anything. My host family was great too. My favorite thing about Guatemalensis was the activities during the afternoons and weekends. We went hiking a lot!! I saw a volcano erupt, went in a natural spa, and hiked to a beautiful lake.
Evaluation from Freia H.:
I enjoyed my stay at this school for about 2 months. My teacher was excellent, all the people in the school were loveable and we still keep contact with some of them. I loved the children from the school`s Social Project. I am looking forward to going back soon (hope so).
Evaluation from hellis:
There are many Spanish language schools in Quetzaltenango (Xela), and it can be very hard to decide which one is for you. Guatemalensis is by far the best-quality program for anyone wanting an authentic Guatemalan experience, with one-on-one, personalized instruction and many opportunities to explore Guatemalan culture and geography. The atmosphere at Guatemalensis promotes in-depth language learning as well as great friendship between students and teachers. Guatemalensis is known for their professional yet family-like environment. The school's directors are always present at the school and accesible for any questions you may have about your studies or travels. The directors are also the guides for any out-of-town excursions. In addition, they are good friends with all of the families who their host students, so you never have to worry about the quality of your accommodations. The directors of Guatemalensis devote their lives to the needs of their students, and I guarantee you will feel like part of their family whether you are studying there for one week or one year! I and many of my friends (ages 17-67, professionals and students, linguists and true beginners) have attended this school and not only achieved much success in Spanish, but also had the time of our lives studying at Guatemalensis. Many of us return to visit the school often because we made such great friends there. There are many things that can go awry when traveling/studying abroad by yourself. The last thing you should need to worry about is the quality of your school. I can recommend Guatemalensis for any level of student and any duration of time. You will no doubt get your money's worth. If you have any specific questions about traveling to or studying in Quetzaltenango, feel free to contact me.
Evaluation from thedith:
In 2012, I've spent 7 weeks at the school and I had a wonderful time. When I arrived, I could speak spanish and at the end I wasn't perfect but I was much better. I had two different teachers and they were both really, really good. The school was organised, we could go on shcool trip during the afternoons and on weekends. My family was awesome, I felt that I was part of their family. Hope that everybody will have such a great time as I did.

Evaluation from john:
Of the five schools I have visited this was the most fun while maintaining a very professional attitude. The directors are hands on and are involved in the activity program which is tailored to suit the majority of the students attending intrests and abilitys.
Evaluation from timbro:
This was an excellent school allround. My teacher was very friendly, patient, and totally prepared to accomodate all my specific needs. The management are warm and go out of their way to ensure you get everything you require. Their focus is on conversation rather than structure. The Guatemalensis "curriculum" is free and flexible to bend to your level, whether beginner, intermediate or advanced. There are no set texts, but the teachers prepare exercises as you go. You get out of it what you put in. Although they have regular activities, they're outside of the full school hours (8am-1pm). This means that in school you focus 100% on learning, while the activities enhance your situational and social conversation. The perfect blend really. I'd recommend to thoroughly consider what area of study you want to focus on before going. Because the teachers are likely to structure the course around you. Otherwise, a top choice for all levels of student.
Evaluation from caligirl:
Good school. Activities are offered Tuesday and Thursday after classes and one on Saturday as well.
Evaluation from canada40:
I enjoyed that school because they are very accomodating. Xela is not Antigua but to learn spanish at half the price, it is the place. In all fairness, XELA is cool. The owner of the school, Rolando and Nora go the extra miles to help you. I did not want to spend 5 hours a day in a classroom so I was able to learn spanish outside of the classroom in the City doing activities. My teacher was MARINA was great and accomodating. Also the food at my homestay was fabulous. I was staying with Dona Josephina and Don Luis, a retired couple without children. I recommend them and the school.
Evaluation from thedukeofparma:
The directors, Nora and Rolando, were probably the kindest couple I have ever met. And they put together an awesome learning environment and organized some truly stellar activities that I feel gave me a truly Guatemalan experience. Also, all of the teachers were excellent instructors, with my main teacher, Mireya, actually having a degree in education. I HIGHLY recommend this school to anyone interested not only in learning spanish, but also in having a great (and inexpensive) experience.
Evaluation from rclark:
Had an excellent experienced teacher (Gilma) who was friendly, flexible in her teaching and knowledgeable about social and cultural aspects of Guatemala. Some good activities held although the school was fairly quiet when I was there. Did not enjoy homestay and moved out after a week but in all a very good experience and I would recommend.
Evaluation from nursecatalina:
Great teacher who completely individualized her approach. The directors were wonderful about helping with legistics of changing money, buying medications at a pharmacy, etc. Good area of town with close home stay. Home stay family also delightful and helpful above and beyond.
Evaluation from Mikeee:
I completed 3 weeks of Spanish at Guatemalensis and really got a lot out of it. It's a great environment to learn with lots of space and sunlight to learn in, and fresh tea and coffee, wifi and a ping pong table make for good distractions when your head can't take any more Spanish. Nora and Rolando, the directors, are super friendly and caring as are all the maestras who I met there. In the 3 weeks we did trips to the coast, Santiaguito volcano, Laguna Chicobal, hot springs, a cafe plantation, a chocolateria and surrounding villages which were all a lot of fun, with a fun crew of local friends and other students. My home stay was perfect too, and it seems like there are a wide range of casas from which to choose from. The school was a little quiet when I was there, but I thought that was nice, and even when it's busy there is still a lot of space to chill out and study. In my experience, a really great school and not too expensive
Evaluation from ccoutts:
This is much more than just a spanish school. I have been traveling the world and trying to piece together my spanish for years. The intensive one-on-one instruction with a professional spanish teacher is what really allowed me to break through. Beyond the unparalleled quality of instruction and beautiful facility was the warm atmosphere of the institution. The directors and hands-on and truly wonderful and caring people. Quetzaltenango has everything one could need without being too touristy. Get out of the capital and Antigua, and get a better sense of life of Guatemala. The immersion also goes a long way in pushing the spanish skills along.
