I loved my time at Instituto Estelar Bilingue! The classes were fun and conversational, the teachers were warm and professional, the extracurricular activities were very interesting, and the volunteer work was extremely rewarding. I learned more than I thought I would and made many Costa Rican friends during their bilingual events - it was so fun! Instituto Estelar Bilingue is the best Spanish school in Costa Rica and I am proud to have studied with them. Thank you, Estelar!!
Evaluation from KateDowd:
The best place to learn Spanish in Costa Rica! Liberia is a beautiful, clean town in Costa Rica with historic scenery, and the Instituto offers authentic classes for learning not only the Spanish language but more about the Tica culture. This has been the best place for learning Spanish that I've ever attended, and I would recommend it to anyone, no matter what level they're at. Pura vida!
Evaluation from gretap:
The Spanish classes at Instituto Estelar Bilingue are great! They are interactive and fun while still being practical and challenging. I took a few weeks of intensive Spanish classes in 2012 and 2013 and absolutely loved my time at the school. What sets Estelar apart from the rest is its bilinugal atmosphere - since there are English classes for local Costa Ricans and Spanish classes for us all in the same colorful school, there are a lot of opportunities for language exchange and getting to know great people. A bilingual conversation club, called Spanglish, and volunteering with the kids groups were particularly fun! Highly recommended! Pura vida!
Evaluation from AllenCorn:
My wife and I attended a one week basic course. We not only were able to hablamos with the best of the beginners, we had fun doing it. The school also does a great job of organizing extra curricular activities like dance lessons, cooking lessons, putting together conversational one on one groups (students learning English and students learning Spanish) and even going out with larger groups to the bar for a beer and to take turns speaking Spanish, English and Spanglish. The staff was engaging and helpful. The was the courses are laid out...Basic 1-5, Intermediate 1-5 and Advanced 1-5, there is a class for everyone. As well, I think you could go through all the classes and not have your brain hurt too much as you learn. Liberia is also a good city to practice your Spanish because there are not a lot of English speaking Ticos yet. Not a lot of tourist yet. So go while it is still Tico.
Evaluation from SharaiKirk:
I have learned so much with Instituto Estelar! I was able to learn a lot of Spanish quickly and I had a blast in the extra events, especially dance class and Spanglish. I made new friends, took some awesome trips, and learned more than I thought I would. Such a great program!!

I got to study at Estelar last year and it was the best experience! The school is small and everyone is so friendly, I can't wait to return in the future. Highly recommended!
Evaluation from ChrisJohnson:
Enjoyed the classes in Survival Spanish for Ex-Pats tremendously. I will definitely be signing up for more classes upon my return to Costa Rica (I'm a reincarnated snow bird). I found the classes to be well organized, well focused and with an intensive level of instruction. The small group setting greatly enhanced the educational experience. I could readily see increases in my fluency from class to class and the classes were geared to practical ways of communicating with our Costa Rican neighbors. An additional plus are the free Spanglish sessions every Monday at Coconutz in Playas del Coco. Nothing like using one's new found language skills in a convivial social setting. Pura Vida and kudos to the Instituto!!!
Evaluation from traveljohn:
I really enjoyed my time at Instituto Estelar Bilingue. I loved my teachers and I made much more progress than I expected. On the first day of class I was a little nervous, but by the end I felt like part of the family both at the school and with my incredible host family. Many thanks to the staff and teachers who made my experience so great!
Evaluation from eskraus:
I was able to immerse myself in the language and learn from great teachers at Instituto Estelar Bilingue. I also took dance classes and artisan classes, and I went a movie night. The extra practice is essential and Instituto Estelar doesn't let you miss out on those opportunities. I highly recommend this place to study and visit Costa Rica. It´s close to the beach and the mountains and full of loving people who want to help you practice. Instituto Estelar is a great deal and offers a very worthwhile experience for your money. I only wish I could have spent more time there!
